How to remove Antivirus XP 2008, Antivirus 2009

Basics: Antivirus XP is a fake antivirus program! It “detects” viruses and malware on your computer and the only for you to remove them is to purchase the product!
DO NOT BUY this rogue antivirus software!!!!!

Removal instructions (please note that this can take up to 2 hours, sometimes even longer):

1. Kill the following processes: AntivirusXP2008.exe, AntivirusXP.exe, 0e1b1.exe, XPAntivirusUpdate.exe, xpa.exe, xpa2008.exe or any other processes that can be associated with this program (the program generates random name files so simply kill any process that looks odd – please use Google so you don’t kill a Windows process). In order to kill these running processes hit Ctrl + Alt + Del which opens the Windows Task Manager, then click the Processes tab. The latest version of the virus disables the Windows Task Manager, if this is the case then download this little program, install it and use it to kill the processes.

2. As of this moment the only program that can successfully remove Antivirus XP is Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware. You can download it HERE. Alternative download sources (Antivirus XP can block the access to some of the best known anti-malware sites): Major Geeks or Security Wonks.

Install the program (leave the default options checked) and then run it – on the Scanner tab make sure the the Perform quick scan option is selected and then click on the Scan button. Wait for the scan to finish – this could take hours depending on the size of your hard drive etc. IMPORTANT: if you see the “blue screen of death” while the program is running simply hit Alt + TAB to get out of it. This is simply a screensaver even though it looks real and even mimics the Windows Start up window.

Once the program has been finished scanning you should see: The scan completed successfully. Click “Show Results” to display all objects found.. Hit OK then click the Show Results button. Click the Remove Selected button. Wait for the program to remove the found malware and then close it.
